The Rice Owls women's basketball team represents Rice University in women's basketball. The school competes in the American Athletic Conference in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The Owls play home basketball games at Tudor Fieldhouse in Houston, Texas.

History

They played in the Southwest Conference from 1982 to 1995 and the Western Athletic Conference from 1996 to 2004 before joining Conference USA in 2005. As of the end of the 2020–21 season, they have a 659–601 all-time record. They were champions of the Women's Basketball Invitational in 2017. They were champions of the Women's National Invitation Tournament in 2021.

USA Basketball Women's National Team "Rice"

The USA Basketball Women's National Team, also known as "Rice", represents the United States of America in international basketball competitions. The team is governed by USA Basketball, the national governing body for basketball in the United States. The team is one of the most successful women's basketball teams in the world, having won nine Olympic gold medals, 11 FIBA World Championships, and eight FIBA Americas Championships. The team is currently ranked first in the FIBA World Ranking.

The team is named after Pat Summitt, the legendary head coach of the Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team. Summitt coached the USA Basketball Women's National Team from 2009 to 2016, leading the team to two Olympic gold medals and two FIBA World Championships.
